Emily Wyatt Awarded a UGA Innovative and Interdisciplinary Research Grant for Doctoral Students

Emily Wyatt was awarded a UGA Innovative and Interdisciplinary Research Grant for Doctoral Students award for her groundbreaking research to develop a stem cell therapy for the treatment of traumatic brain injury (TBI). TBI is one of the leading causes of death and long-term disability among persons in the United States. Despite the number of people who are affected by TBI, there remains to be no effective treatment. Stem cell therapy presents an exciting opportunity as they produce regenerative growth factors that can heal the brain and they can develop and replace lost brain tissue. The outcomes of her research could change the lives of millions TBI victims around the world.
